Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Letter from George Biddell Airy, Royal Observatory, Greenwich, 27 October 1840, to the Marquis of Northampton, full text entered into the minutes: Airy has noticed that the minutes of the Board of Longitude are divided between the Admiralty and the Royal Society; he believes they should be united, either at the Society or at the Royal Observatory, noting that there is now a fire-proof apartment at the Observatory. Resolved that documents relating to the Board of Longitude should be transferred to the Observatory. Applications from Mr. Bowman, Lord Oxmanton, Dr. Barry and Mr. Hodkinson for additional copies of their papers, granted. List of bills to be paid, for various expenses. List of President, Officers and Members of Council recommended to be put to the ballot at the Anniversary Meeting.
