Commencing with a list of Council members present: Charles Cardale Babington; the Reverend John Barlow; Arthur Cayley; Sir Henry Holland; Thomas Henry Huxley; William Hallows Miller; Sir Roderick Impey Murchison; William Sharpey; George Gabriel Stokes; Alexander William Williamson; John Wrottesley, 2nd Baron Wrottesley; the Treasurer and Vice-President, Major-General Edward Sabine in the Chair.
Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting read and approved. List of salaries for payment to Officers and staff of the Royal Society. List of bills for payment, for paper, engraving, and for other expenses. Resolved that the Society of Naturalists of New Granada and the Library of Windsor College, Nova Scotia, be placed on the list to receive the Proceedings. A list of institutions and individuals was approved to receive copies of Mr. Huxley's work on marine hydrozoa, which received £300 from the Government Grant: presentations to be made in the name of the Royal Society, H.M. Government and twelve copies placed at Mr. Huxley's disposal. Adjudication of medals: Professor Kirchhoff placed on the list of candidates for the Rumford Medal. |
