Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting read and approved. J.W.L. Glaisher and Hugo Muller made and subscribed to the declaration in lieu of the oath, as new Members of Council. Death of James Rennie. Report of the Government Grant Committee in the form of minutes of the meeting of 19 December 1883, full text entered into the minutes: including lists of applicants for grants from Sub-Committees A-C, with lists of recommendations for awards from the Sub-Committees; with grants provisonally confirmed after discussion. A committee to be formed to carry out recommendations regarding the proposal of William Huggins. Remuneration for Mr. Rix in the administration of the Government Grant to be fixed at £40 per annum. Letters from Professor Moseley and Professor W.K. Parker were read and it was resolved that £75 from ther Donation Fund to be granted to T. Jeffrey Parker, for obtaining specimens of Hatteria and Apteryx, with a further sum of £25 available if necessary. £10 from the Donation Fund awarded to George Murray of the British Museum to investigate causes of Salmon Disease. Signor Gallenga allowed to make extracts from a paper by Signor Mancini in the archives. Leave granted to Professor Lankester for electrotypes. List of candidates for Foreign Membership discussed and nominations for five places to be made at the next meeting. The salary of Mr. Rix to be increased by £10 to £180 per annum. The Treasurer reported that he had requested the loan of £500 as credit from the Society's bankers until next January. The value of the gold medals received from the Executors of Sir Edward Sabine was £37 15s. 3d., for the Royal Medal and £11 18s., for the Lalande Medal: the proceeds had been invested in the purchase of £48 14s. 8d., of New Threes, for the Scientific Relief Fund. List of bills for payment for stationery, books, and for other expenses. |
