Title | File of criticism of Wilkie's ideas on biological energetics by Dr. Barbara E. C. Banks, arranged by Douglas Robert Wilkie |
Creator | Wilkie; Douglas Robert (1922 - 1998); physiologist |
Date | 1969-1972 |
Description | Records documenting a scientific disagreement with Dr. Barbara E. C. Banks and Charles Vernon, who were critical of Wilkie's paper 'Thermodynamics in Biology', published in the Chemistry in Britain, Vol. 6. No. 11. November 1970. Wilkie responded to the critcisms by explaining that Banks has failed to understand the writings she criticises, particularly in relation to "hydrolysis of ATP". File includes correspondence with Dr. [Kenneth George] Denbigh FRS on Guss's theorem, the efficiency and entropy production. Also included is a copy of Wilkie's paper 'The free energy of non-isothermal systems', published in Nature, 245, 457–458 (1973); draft paper on the 'Second Law of Thermodynamics, reply to criticisms' by Dr. A. C. Legon; discussion of Wilkie's work in thermodynamics with Professor I. Prigogine, Professor Roy Caplan; a reprint of Wilkie's work published in the Chemistry in Britain, Vol. 6. No. 11. November 1970, titled 'Thermodynamics and biology', and correspondence in relation to this paper; correspondence with Charles A. Vernon and Professor Wolpert, with copies of letters from James Frederic Danielli FRS pertaining to an article that was submitted for publication in the Journal of Theoretical Biology; an updated copy of Wilkie's article 'Thermodynamics and Biology'. The file was previously titled "Miscellaneous Barbarities". |
