Citation | Ds Johannes Henricus Winkler Graecar & Latinarum Literarum Professor Publicus Ordinarius & Academiae Lipsiensis Nuper Rector. This Gentleman was the first who favoured the Royal Society by communicating to them those most surprising and wonderfull Experiments in Electricity, whereby he produced actual fire from the Electrical flash, kindling thereby rectified Spirit of Wine and many other inflamable Substances as mentioned in his German Book published on this Subject, and in his Letter to the Society published in the Phil Trans No 475 he was for the year 1745 Rector of the University of Lipsick the post of the highest Honour in that Society, and now being desirous of the favour of becoming a member of the Royal Society, we whose names are under writen do on account of his Great Learning and merit recommend him as a Candidate and a person who will be a very usefull member of the Same |
