Citation	G W Featherstonhaugh Esqr FGS now resident in New York, [a] gentleman who has zealously promoted the cultivation of Geology in the United States, and who has recently been appointed by the Congress to conduct an extensive Geological and Mineral Survey of that country under the title of "Principal Geologist of the United States", being desirous of becoming a Fellow of the Royal Society of London, we the undersigned do from our knowledge of himself or of his writings recommend him as well deserving that honor
