| Citation | Andrew Noble. Author of Papers in the "Philosophical Magazine" on the relation of forces tending to produce rotation & translation in Rifled Ordnance: also "on the application of the theory of probabilities for artillery practice" and "on the tension of aqueous vapour at very low temperatures. He conducted in 1850-52 meteorological & magnetical observation in Lower Canada which were published by the Canadian Institute. He is also the Inventor and maker of the Electro-Mechanical Chronoscope now employed for determining the velocities acquired by projectiles at various points in the bore of a gun; and by the use of which the pressures exercised by various kinds of gun powder in all parts of the bore are ascertained for guidance in the manufacture of gunpowder. Distinguished for his acquaintance with mathematics, mechanics, Physical Science, and the theory of Artillery. |
