Researches on the behaviour of monad germs in a putrescible fluid when the fluid was exposed alternately to an air charged with them and to one "optically pure". The earliest of these was reported first in the Popular Science Review for April 1876 : but afterwards the researches were repeated and modified and read as a paper published in the Monthly Micro Journ entitled "Experiments on a sterile putrescible fluid &c Vol xvi 5. The discovery of a means of centering and illuminating accurately with high powers of the Microscope, and the device of an apparatus to accomplished this. M M J vol XV 6.
