Title | Schott, George Adolphus: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Description | Date stamp on reverse |
Citation | Has done distinguished work in mathematical physics, especially on the Radiation from Systems of Electrons and the Dynamics of the Electron. The most important is contained in his Adams' Prize Essay 'Electro-magnetic Radiation' (Camb Univ Press, 1912), in which many of the most difficult problems are solved with extraordinary analytical skill. This volume is perhaps even more a mine of wealth to the mathematician than to the physicist. All is notable for extreme accuracy and ingenuity. Joint work with Prof Watson on Kapteyn-Bessel series is fundamental. |
