| Title | Raper, Henry Stanley: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
| Description | Date stamp on reverse |
| Citation | Distinguished for investigations in chemical physiology and pathology. Has made highly significant experimental contributions to the problem of fatty acid synthesis and oxidation in the animal body, and has developed a theory of proved value concerning the mode of oxidation 'in vivo' of fatty acids with branched chains. More recently he has conducted brilliant investigations on the mechanism of the tyrosine-tyrosinase reaction, and has discovered novel chemical changes of great biological significance, including the production of indole derivatives from tyrosine. Has successfully applied chemical methods in the investigation of a variety of pathological conditions, and (1915-1918) rendered well-known service in perfecting methods of defence in connection with gas warfare. Joint author of a monograph on 'The Fats.' |
