| Citation | Distinguished for his researches on the fatigue of metals, especially in connection with the fatigue phenomena exhibited by single crystals, on which he has communicated four important papers to the Society. Has written a book on the Fatigue of Metals which may be regarded as a standard work on the subject. Has also carried out other important investigations on the Strength of Materials amongst which may be mentioned two works on the causes of the failure of wrought iron chains and cables, the merit of which has been recognized by the Home Office. |
