Title | Felix, Arthur: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Description | Date stamp on reverse |
Citation | Member of Bacteriological Staff, Lister Institute, London. Distinguished for his fundamental contributions to serology, pure and applied. Co-discoverrer with Weil of the Weil-Felix reaction (1916) for the diagnosis of typhus fever. He has, in more recent years, done much to establish the value of this and similiar reactions in the differentiation of typhus-like diseases (Rickett-sioses) throughout the world. His many contributions to the antigenic analysis of bacteria, in particular his recognition of the H, O, and Vi components, have opened up a completely new chapter in serology, enriched our methods of distinguishing closely allied bacterial species, and provided valuable new weapons for attack on problems of active or passive immunity. |
