| Citation | Distinguished for researches in Petrogenesis and Physiography. First studied Metasomatism of Basic Rocks (Whin Sill: Connemara). Also analysed joint-systems in Carboniferous limestone of Craven.
Later, on 1933 Everest Expedition, made stratigraphical observations in N. Sikkim, and studied development of trans-Himalayan gorges.
Chief work on Igneous rocks and physiography of East Greenland (three expeditions). Has established age of the igneous activity and associated tectonics. Laboratory work incomplete, but published papers are an important contribution to knowledge of Calc-alkaline Rocks, magmatic differentiation, and the mechanics of Igneous intrusion. |
