| Description | Citation typed |
| Citation | Distinguished as an Organic Chemist. His researches have covered a wide field of analytical and synthetic studies especially of heterocyclic substances. In early collaboration with Robinson he established the constitution of eserine by the synthesis of a degradation product. After a period of miscellaneous activity he concentrated on the preparation of potential chemotherapeutic agents and has greatly enriched our synthetic resources in several active groups of compounds. Later he undertook a systematic study of hardwood extractives and has already isolated and characterised a number of new natural products. The broad scope of his output precludes summary. (67 papers, list attached). |
