Title | Pippard, Sir Alfred Brian: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Description | Citation typed |
Citation | Distinguished for his investigations into conductivity in metals at low temperatures, in particular superconductivity. Has developed elegant techniques for examining the anomalous skin effect at microwave frequencies when the field varies in distances small compared with the mean free path of the conduction electrons. Has made valuable contributions to theory of superconductivity, developing idea of coherence (long-ranger interaction) in the electronic system. His work is distinguished by a mastery of experimental design together with a profound understanding of theoretical principles. Many papers in Proceedings of the Royal Society, Physical Review, Philosophical Magazine, and elsewhere. |
