Title | Shoppee, Charles William: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Description | Citation typed |
Citation | Made important contributions to the study of reaction mechanism, especially of prototropy, producing much of the evidence identifying the forms of ionic mechanism normally operative. Discovered some previously unknown prototropic systems. With Reichstein gave rigorous proof of the detailed structure of the cortex substances with oxygen at C11. Investigated diginin and so discovered the deoxy-sugar diginose. Conspicuously successful in bringing new knowledge of reaction mechanism to bear on steroid problems, notably in the elucidation of stereochemical relations among steroids, and in the production of D homosterols. |
