Citation | Contributed to the discovery and perfections of the important industrial pigment of "Monastral blue", and applied his knowledge of dyestuffs successfully to counter espionage (secret writing) during the war. Since 1944 has opened up new fields in medical biochemistry by the development and application of paper chromatography to problems of genetics, metabolism and disease. He has isolated unknown amino acids and other compounds hitherto unsuspected to exist in human urine, and applied his techniques to the study of new syndromes, liver disease, renal function and, particularly, to aspects of orthopaedics, radiology and urogenital surgery, till then outside the field of biochemistry. |
