Description | Citation typed |
Citation | Distinguished for contributions to immunology. Introduced, in 1945, the antiglobulin test, by means of which nearly all subsequent 'new' blood group systems have been identified; he brilliantly exploited the test in wider fields of fundamental and applied immunology. His work on the conglutination phenomenon elucidated the species specific nature of complement and showed that immuno-conglutinin may have a physiological 'anti-antibody' role. Introduced the mixed agglutination and the mixed antiglobulin tests and applied them with notable success to the study of genetic and disease variations of the surface of tissue cells and of cells in culture. His study of experimental models of allergic reactions of clinical importance has incriminated a hypersensitivity reaction to cow's milk as a possible cause of 'cot-death' in infants. A list of 92 publications is appended. |
