Title | Priestley, Charles Henry Brian: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Description | Citation typed |
Citation | Distinguished for his researches in dynamical meteorology. He has made outstanding contributions to the study of turbulence in the lower atmosphere, notably in relation to heat transfer by natural convection. He has also published important papers on the general circulation of the atmosphere, dealing in particular with the meridional transfer of momentum and energy. His work is characterized by a high degree of mathematical skill, coupled with deep physical insight. He leads one of the most active groups in present-day meteorological research and his monograph on turbulent transfer processes in the Earth's boundary layer, published in 1959, is an outstandingly original work which may become a meteorological classic. A list of 43 papers is attached. |
