Title | Hopkins, Harold Horace: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Description | Citation typed |
Citation | Dr. H.H. Hopkins has made distinguished contributions in a variety of fields of theoretical and applied optics. These include aberration theory, optical design techniques, the invention of novel optical systems, diffraction theory, the coherence properties of light beams, applications of coherence theory, the invention of fibre optics, the basic theory of optical transfer functions, techniques for the calculation and measurement of transfer functions, the use of interferometers as analogue devices, and the diffraction theory of image formation. More recently he has, among other things, succeeded in applying diffraction-based criteria of image quality in automatic optical design, and devised new optimisation procedures. |
