Description | Citation typed |
Citation | A zoologist who has maintained with high distinction the long tradition of malacological research with which, starting with Martin Lister, the Royal Society has been associated. Responsible for an impressive series of studies on functional morphology in the Gastropoda, particularly those elucidating the complex structure and adaptations of the radula apparatus. Author with Vera Fretter, initially his student, of British Prosobranch Molluscs. Unquestionably the most comprehensive and illuminating work on marine gastropods published anywhere during this century, almost every page contains original observations and /or figures. He has been responsible for the training, to his high standard, of many research workers. |
