Title | Lappert, Michael Franz: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Date | 1975 |
Description | Citation typed |
Citation | Professor Lappert is distinguished for his contribution to organimetallic chemistry. He has shown great versatility in the range of his discoveries and in their application to synthetic chemistry. His earlier work in Main Group chemistry laid the foundation of the application of boron halides and metal dialkylamides to synthesis in both inorganic and organic chemistry. More recently he has entered transition metal chemistry through the synthesis of compounds containing bounds between Main Group, mainly Group IVa, and transition metals. He is particularly known for his studies of carbene complexes derived from electron-rich olefins, stannylene complexes and the use of sillylorganic groups to prepare unusual organometallic compounds including organometallic free radicals e.g. [Sn{CH(SiMe3)2}3] and the study of their chemistry. His international reputation is high and he has received a number of awards, the most recent being the 1976 F. S. Kipping Award in Organosilicon Chemistry by the American Chemical Society. |
