Title | Bradshaw, Anthony David: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Date | 1980 |
Description | Citation typed |
Citation | Distinguished for his contribution to our awareness and understanding of the extent and speed of heritable adaptive responses by population of the same species of plant to different adaptive environments. His early work was concerned especially to show the differential response of population of grasses and clover to mineral nutrients. This interest later developed to a special concern with the evolution of populations tolerant of heavy metals which provided the basis for measurements of gene flow and selection pressure on a local scale. He has exploited these findings, and those of his students by developing strains of plants and a technology appropriate for the revegetation of derelict and industrially contaminated land. |
