Title | Green, James Alexander: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Date | 1983 |
Description | Citation handwritten |
Citation | Distinguished for his contributions to group theory, and in particular the theory of matrix representations of finite groups. He has made original and fundamental contributions to the theory of modular representations. But perhaps his main achievement is the construction of the irreducible characters of the general linear groups over finite fields, a work of profound originality which has been of seminal influence on later developments. |
