Title | Olive, David Ian: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Date | 1981 |
Description | Citation typed |
Citation | Distinguished for his work in the theory of elementary particles and quantum field theory. He made significant contributions to S-matrix theory, concerned particularly with the singularity structure of multi-particle amplitudes. This led on to important work on dual models (exhibiting duality in pole structure between direct and crossed channels) on which he became a world expert. He was responsible for critical advances in the theory of interacting strings and in the extension of the dual string model to fermions. More recently he has played a leading role in work on the theory of magnetic monopoles, notably on the topological classification of monopoles in non-Abelian gauge theories, and on the concept of electric-magnetic duality. He has also contributed significantly to supergravity theory. |
