Citation | Professor Pawley is distinguished for his work on molecular crystals using both theoretical and experimental techniques. He pioneered the use of constrained refinements for crystal structure determinations, and performed the first detailed experiments and calculations on the atomic motions in molecular crystals. He was one of the first to realise the potential of parallel computers for large scale computations, and has successfully applied these techniques to problems in molecular physics, statistical physics and elementary particle physics. It is largely as a result of the success of this work that there is currently a world wide effort to develop more powerful parallel computers. |
