Citation | Ostriker is one of the world's most productive and influential astrophysicists, with an extraordinary record of research and scientific leadership extending over 40 years. He is the author or co-author of classic papers on pulsars, galactic dynamics, dark matter, cosmic rays, intergalactic gas, cosmic structure formation, and cosmology. Over the last decade he has become a leader in the computational study of structure formation. He has spent most of his career at Princeton University - Professor since 1971, Department Chairman 1979-95, and Provost 1995-2001 - and has helped to sustain it as one of the world's leading centres for astrophysical research. He has had a pervasive influence on the wider scene through his membership and chairmanship of many NAS and NASA committees. Ostriker is currently spending three years as Plumian Professor of Astronomy in Cambridge, on leave from Princeton. |
