| Citation | Bruce Weir is distinguished for his fundamental contributions to population and quantitative genetics theory, and its application to analysis of population structure and to forensics. He derived descent measures which characterize the transmission of at linked loci among groups of individuals, including the most widely used method for quantifying population structure from genetic data. He has been responsible for development of methods utilizing genetics in forensic applications and for applying appropriate statistical methods.
