Citation | John Aston, Harding Professor of Statistics in Public Life, has pioneered the integration of geometric methods into functional data analysis. He introduced the statistical analysis of covariance operators, and has been influential in the foundation of object data analysis, particularly with his work on sounds as object data. He has also made seminal contributions to methodology for statistical neuroimaging and many other applications. As Chief Scientific Advisor to the Home Office, he led on scientific advice and research in high-profile public policy issues in National Security and COVID-19. In 2021, he was knighted for services to statistics and public policymaking. |
