Title | Johansen Berg, Heidi: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Date | 21 April 2024 |
Description | Certificate endorsing election of Heidi Johansen-Berg as a Fellow of the Royal Society. Includes personal details of the elected Fellow, citation giving the reasons for election, and names of proposers. Signed by the Executive Director of the Royal Society, Julie Maxton. |
Citation | Johansen-Berg’s research focuses on brain structure, function and plasticity - and how to influence plasticity - principally for recovery of function after stroke, but also in the developing and ageing brain. She has performed elegant investigations of functional plasticity using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and has demonstrated that brain connections change their structure with experience, particularly during mental activity associated with learning new skills. The basic discoveries she has made about brain plasticity, as well as the techniques she has developed to study and enhance it, are now inspiring fundamental new discoveries and applications that will ultimately benefit patient recovery. |
