Citation | Tamsin Mather has transformed our understanding of past and present impacts of volcanism on the environment and unlocked ground-breaking new knowledge about major events in Earth’s geological past. Her ability to use fundamental chemical principles to make novel connections between seemingly disparate geological observations distinguishes her. She has established new linkages between the chemical reactions occuring in high-temperature volcanic gas mixtures at the point of emission and the environmental impacts of volcanism on the regional to planetary scale. Her work uses key lessons from the compositions of present-day volcanic gases to reinterpret signals left deep in Earth’s geological record. |
