Citation | Francis Nimmo is a planetary geologist who uses ideas from a variety of fields to model the extraordinary variety of processes that have produced planets and satellites, especially those of the solar system. He has used his wide range of interests and contacts to propose explanations for the early magnetic field of Mars, the structure of icy bodies such as Enceladus, Europa and Pluto, and the geochemical variations between the inner and outer solar system. He has worked with a variety of experts in different fields to construct simple physical models of the planetary processes involved. |
