| Description | The letter, sent via the British Council in Cantiago was originally dated 28 September 1958. The paper also includes a very short cable from Holdgate written later on the 4th October to announce the expedition's arrival in Chepu, on the West Coast of Chile. The first letter is longer, describing the difficulties the group encountered with Chile's customs officials, followed by a brief account of their travels within Chile.
