TitleSouthern Chile Expedition discussion meeting
Date12 May 1959 - 21 March 1960
DescriptionLarge file mostly made up of correspondence concerning arrangements for a two day discussion meeting on the 'biology of the southern cold temperate zone'. The discussion meeting not only included members of the expedition to Southern Chile, but also those with expertise in other areas of the cold temperate zone, for example there were papers from scientists working on Tristan da Cunha, Patagonia and the Antarctic. Correspondence includes invitations and replies, abstracts of work to be presented and the subsequent publication of the meeting in the Royal Society's Proceedings journal.
In addition to the correspondence, there are some administrative papers in the file, including but not limited to a list of persons who might be invited, a proposed programme of the meeting, draft letters of invitation and a breakdown of costs associated with the discussion meeting. The file contains items authored by Dr Holdgate, a list of collecting stations for terrestrial invertebrates, a map showing the areas visited by the expedition, for presentation at the discussion meeting and a reprint from NATURE about the discussion meeting.
