| Description | She received a copy of Herschel's 'The Iliad' some weeks ago from Macmillan. She accepted this as an acknowledgement of her husband's version [James Ingis Cochrane], which she had requested to be sent to Herschel. She believed from previous correspondence that Herschel would be interested in seeing the whole translation. His note of 10 April has just reached her, as she has changed residence and she thanks Herschel for his kind and appreciative tone. The composition was remarkable, since Cochrane was partly paralysed from spinal disease and defective sight which culminated in total blindness, and attacks of acute neuralgia. He still maintained a large business as an Indian merchant and the book was the recreation of twelve years. |
