TitleLetter from J A [Joseph Alfred] Hardcastle, Cromer, to Sir John [Frederick William Herschel]
CreatorHardcastle; Joseph Alfred (1815-1899); British politician
Date30 October 1866
DescriptionHe has delayed in writing to thank Herschel for the handsome present [of 'The Iliad' translation]. He wished to read it before replying, but he has been so busy pursuing game that he has had no time for Homer. Henry [Hardcastle] tells him that Herschel has been anxious about Maria [Maria Sophia Herschel], and he is glad that Herschel has cautioned him as young people can be careless. Her attending physician is an excellent doctor with the best reputation in Suffolk. He would be sure not to allow her to move until she was fit.
