Title | Letter from H [Henry] Holland, Brook Street, to Sir John [Frederick William Herschel] |
Creator | Holland; Sir Henry; first baronet (1788-1873); British physician |
Date | 20 June [1863?] |
Description | He sends by post the manuscript of Book 4 which he has gone through from first to last line with equal pleasure and admiration. He thinks it is by far the best rendering of the spirit of 'The Iliad' and he is almost entirely converted to the English hexameter. He puts forward some trifling comments. Holland gives line by line suggestions, concluding that Herschel 'has got well through the blood & brains narrative at the close of the Book'. |
