TitleList of Herschel correspondence, kept in the 'Deal Chest' at Observatory House
Date19th century [?]
DescriptionHeaded: 'List of correspondence in "Deal Chest A MSS". As sorted in Subjects, named and Entered in Repertorium, by [F.H. ?] (with very trifling alterations'. The listing is in a tabular format, with columns for subject, correspondent, style of letters or by first words, other subjects in the letter, number, date, place and number in Repertorium.

The original paper wrapper has been retained with the list. This has been repurposed from its original (and struck through) contents, 'New Double Stars 4th Class' [this suggests it was originally in the box of William Herschel's papers, see HSF/10/3]. There are various later inscriptions, the most complete: 'Index to Correspondence on Special Subjects kept in Deal Chest A MSS in Alphabetical Order of Correspondents' names'.
