TitleLetter from J L E [John Louis Emil] Dreyer, the Observatory, Armagh, to Sir W J [William James] Herschel
CreatorDreyer; John Louis Emil (1852-1926); Danish astronomer and historian
Date18 July 1910
DescriptionHe has just received the tour with General Komarzewski and he lists the manuscript material he already has. He thinks the committee will not object to him making full use of the materials. He will look up Komarzewski in the Biographic Universalle and intends to make abstracts of the letters. He asks what is meant by the journal, as the sweeps he has from the Royal Society make reference to it. He has said to Sir David Gill that the notes on polishing specula should be digested in an essay, but Gill believes it could only be done by someone who had devoted time to making and polishing mirrors. They must depend upon Sir John's 'Telescope' article. He may ask for the loan of these four volumes in the future, but for now he is spending time on the catalogues of nebulae. He has most of Sir William Herschel's papers from the Edinburgh Observatory, but some are missing, and may need to borrow them from Sir William. He thanks Sir William for his invitation.
