During his trip, Sir John Vane attended an accession ceremony at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History on 4 October, where an original specimen of aspirin was presented for the collection; included in the file is a copy of a press story regarding the presentation, which references Sir John Vane ('Aspirin now shelved in Smithsonian', by Katherine Pfleger) and a copy of booklet published by Bayer, entitled 'Aspirin, 100 years: The future has just begun', which provides a history of the development and exploitation of aspirin.
