Citation | Andrew, John Harold (Sheffield). Professor of Metallurgy at the University of Sheffield. Distinguished especially with reference to his contributions to the knowledge of alloy steels, in particular those containing nickel, chromium and molybdenum. In addition, he has published valuable papers on the physical properties of steel and their determinations, the cause or causes of Temper Brittleness, the solubility of iron and manganese sulphides in steel, the equilibtria of certain non-metallic systems and the fluidity of iron carbon and other iron alloys. He has been for some time an active member of the "Ingots" and Steel Castings Committee of the Iron and Steel Institute, charged with the task of improving the quality of these products. |
