Description | Daily records of the weather observed at York Factory, Hudson's Bay, Canada. Columns for date, time, barometer, thermometer, winds, weather and general remarks. Usually between four and seven readings per day, most often six per day: variable times, but most often commencing at 6.00a.m. and ending at 9.00p.m. The general remarks contain records of the aurora borealis and other phenomena, with occasional references to natural history: for example, 'many American black birds on the plantation' and 'many Grey geese flew high to the S.W.' [p.8]; 'a small white whale killed' [p.69]. Visiting and departing native Americans and some Euroepans are also recorded: 'seven canoes of Necauwewue Indians came to trade' [p.71].
