Description | Daily records of the weather observed at York Factory, Hudson's Bay, Canada. Columns for date, time, barometer, thermometer, winds, weather and general remarks. Usually six readings per day, commencing at 6.00a.m. and ending at 9.00p.m. The general remarks contain records of the aurora borealis and other phenomena, with occasional references to natural history, for example, 'Snow birds plenty but few Geese' [p.5]. Movements of people are occasionally noted: 'Mr Cocking 2 English and five bands of Indians set off for Inland' [p.2].
This manuscript duplicates information in MA/160/3, pp.1-27. The more hurried nature of some notes suggests this as the original, and MA/160/3 a fair copy. |
