The accompanying text [p.9] states that: 'The Pluviameter [sic] is constructed in the following manner. (aa) Fig. II represents the receiver, the surface of which is exactly 100 square inches & is about an inch & a half deep: from this the rain falls into the tube (bb) thro' the opening (c): this tube is of such a size that one cubic inch of water, occupies about an inch of its length. (d) is a hollow ball of very this copper, & so light, that it, together with the scale (e)...readily float in the water'. |
