This manuscript i sdated between the two meteorological journals by William Barr which were published by the Royal Society. 'Journal of the weather at Montreal. By Mr. Barr. Communicated by Richard Saunders M.D., F.R.S.', Philosophical Transactons of the Royal Society, v.68 (1778) pp.559-563 covers the period December 1776-March 1777. A second paper, 'A Journal of the weather at Montreal. By Mr. Barr, Purveyor to His Majesty's Hospitals in Canada; communicated by Dr. Saunders', Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, v.70 (1780) pp.272-277 has tables for the months December 1778-April 1779.
Headed [p.1]: 'Register of the Weather kept at Montreal'. Endorsed [p.12]: 'Mr. Barr's Register of the Weather kept at Montreal from Nov: 1777 to April 1778 communicated by Dr. Saunder. Recd. Oct. 1. 1778'. The final manuscript note [p.11] reads: 'The Thermometer by which the above observations were made, was Farenhiet's [sic] & hung to a post of a Shade in a Garden, exposed to the N E without the least shelter & no wall near enough that could affect it'. Opposite [p.10] is the note: 'The 26th in the morning the Thermometer was broke by accident, which put an end to further observations'. |
