Description | Daily meteorological records, kept on printed sheets. These record the hour of observations (at two hourly intervals), barometer in inches and decimals, thermometer, winds, quarter and strength, weather, rain in inches, and general remarks. The number of manuscript entries for the barometer and thermometer is usually at least seven entries per day, between 6.00am and 6.00pm., with occasional variations. Generally, there are more records of wind direction and strength, but no records of rainfall, and very occasional general remarks.
Inscribed [p.3]: 'A Meteorological Register kept at Trincomalie between the 1st of September 1842 and 28th February 1843. Joseph Higgs Master Attendant'. Inscribed on the back cover [p.100]: Abstract of the Journal of the State of the Weather at Trincomalee from 1st Sept. 1842 to Feb. 28/43'.
