Description | While at the Cape of Good Hope, his friend Colonel Cloete [Sir Abraham Josias Cloëté (1794-1886)] mentioned that Herschel wished to have observations for every hour during the day and night of 21 March, and asked if Lindsay would undertake the task. He has pleasure in sending the results to Herschel, numbering the observations made by the officers of the ship [HMS Owen Glendower] who had deck watch, and by Lindsay himself, and he vouches for their accuracy. He describes the resulting chart [MA/85/3] and his own register of the voyage from India [MA/85/1], which he offers to copy for Herschel. |
