Description | Daily meteorological observations from Halifax in Yorkshire, listed by date and time. Single barometer readings, usually at 7am or 8am: with morning and evening thermometer readings, notes on wind direction and strength, general remarks on weather, rain in inches, and hygrometer degrees. These are intermediary observations, moving from the old style calendar of the previous gathering [MA/9/1] to the new style [MA/9/3]. There is a table of annual means from the barometer, thermometer and rainfall figures, incorporating January-February figures from the previous gathering [p.23].
The manuscript follows the format recommended in the paper: 'Invitatio ad observationes meteorologicas communi consilio instituendas', by James Jurin, Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, v.32 (1723), pp.422-427.
The front cover is inscribed '1726'. Headed [p.3]: 'A Diary of the Weather at Halifax From March to December 1726'. |
