Description | Daily meteorological observations, usually of six per day, noting barometric pressure, temperature in two locations, wind force and direction. No location is given for the vessel, but from 8 October there are notes of shifting latitude and longitude, current force and direction, and compass variations, suggesting that the ship set sail on that day. The final position is given on 24 October, after which this information is no longer entered, therefore the ship may be assumed to be at anchor from that date. With occasional remarks.
The later manuscript in the series [MA/97/4] gives the fixed location as Victoria Settlement, Port Essington, now in the Northern Territory of Australia. The settlement was established by Sir John James Gordon Bremer in 1838, during this visit.
