TitleLetter to Professor [George Gabriel] Stokes, The Royal Society
Datec.22 February 1869
DescriptionInforms he cannot attent the Iron Ship Committe and objects to aspects of the proposed scheme (copper bolts through the bottom are to be insulated by india rubber or waterproof glue. Soft substances of this nature will probably allow the copper bolt to come in contact with the iron of the ship). Maintains he cannot recommend the current adoption, arguing that they should propose objections to the ship becoming its own conductor, to stave off any potential embarrassment to the Royal Society Committee, as they would be proposing an elaborate flaw.
